Comparing The Average Life Spans Of Three Types Of Cockroaches
Usually, cockroaches do not cause any harm. They can be found all over the world, except for inhospitable places. At present, there are more than 4000 varieties of cockroaches already identified, and 3 of these varieties are responsible for making human existence miserable because these 3 species like to live where there are humans.
Distinguishing these roaches could be the first step in irradication & control. It is pretty simple and can aid in extermination methods. Here are the 3 major types of cockroaches.
American Cockroach
The American cockroach can grow up to 25mm in length. It has a reddish brown color & single stripe on the head. These roaches love the taste of liquor and can often be seen in bars or at home in case you had a party and didn’t clean up rapidly. They have a life span of up to 1 and half years. Their incubation period is from 6 to 8 weeks.
German Cockroach
The German cockroach has two lighter stripes on the back of its head, and sport a tan or brownish color. They can grow up to lengths of 15mm. It is probably the fastest breeding among home pests, giving birth to around 30 to 40 nymphs with an incubation period of 30 days. That is relatively fast, seeing one of them can multiply to 30,000 in a year’s time. They can live for around six months.
Oriental Cockroach
The Oriental cockroach is probably the biggest of these 3. It grows approximately 25mm in length. They are a dark brown or black color with a shiny body & move generally slower than the other species. They are sometimes known as the “waterbug” since they prefer dark, moist hiding places. They are potentially seen in cellars or damp mulch. Incubation can last two months with about 15 eggs hatching and; they can each live for up to two years.
